Transfield Services and Transdev partner to expand public transport services into the Middle East
Transfield Services and Transdev today announced a strategic partnership to pursue public transport opportunities in the Middle East. The co-operative agreement will focus on a wide range of emerging public transport operations and maintenance opportunities in the United Arab Emirates, including in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Many of the emerging opportunities are part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Transport’s Surface Transport Master Plan. The Plan recommends an integrated system of regional rail and metro rail, tram, bus and ferry transport be implemented by 2030. Transfield Services’ and Transdev’s joint venture, TransdevTSL, provides services to the bus, ferry and tram transport sectors in Australia. Transfield Services’ Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Peter Goode, said today: “This agreement further strengthens our commitment to grow and develop our TransdevTSL public transport venture globally.” “TransdevTSL has a strong track record in improving the safety, efficiency and reliability of public transport services – outcomes which have led to increased patronage across all our public transport businesses.” Transfield Services, Chief Executive Officer, International, Mr Paul McCarthy said today: “The partnership will also investigate other opportunities in the Middle East and beyond, where our experience and capabilities can offer innovative and successful public transport solutions.” Transdev, Group Development Projects Director, Paul Wren, said today: “The Middle East is a key market, offering high-growth potential, increased demand and a whole host of projects, representing a major growth area for the Transdev Group. We look forward to joining forces again with Transfield Services to focus on new integrated solutions of public transport in the Middle East.” According to the Master Plan, metropolitan Abu Dhabi is expected to triple its 2008 population by 2030, surpassing three million residents. The city is expected to also see a five-fold increase in daily car trips by the same year, despite the road networking reaching capacity in 2015.
